Kerr Creative
Since 1993, Donna Kerr has designed programs and trained staff in Motivational Interviewing and the Model of Change for Correctional Services of Canada, Capital Health, Government of B.C., Health Canada FASD Prevention and other local, provincial and national organizations.
Donna has been a member of the MINT (Motivational Interviewing Network of Trainers), an international collective of people trained as trainers in MI since 2003. Donna brings extensive practical experience and knowledge to the training and is known for her relaxed and fun (yet efficient and effective) training style.
Donna is self-employed at Kerr Creative where she does writing and training. Before self-employment called, she worked at AADAC (Alberta Alcohol and Drug Abuse Commission) for 6 years at the Henwood Treatment Centre. Donna started as a Recreation Therapist and was Supervisor of the Leisure Department by the time she left AADAC to start her own company.
And before AADAC… (ancient history!) she worked in the fitness industry as fitness trainer/consultant. Add a brief career as a financial consultant, and Donna has always worked in areas that were all about behaviour change.
Great workshops and training
I write the books on training—literally. Writing curriculum and manuals so that another person can pick up the document and teach a course teaches you a lot about designing learning. I’ve also been “training-the-trainers” for over 15 years and it’s taught me tons about training! So when it comes to me being the one in front of a class, I use everything I’ve ever learned about training.
After 20 years, I am still learning about training which is what makes it so much fun. Without blowing my own horn too much, I do consider myself a “master trainer.” And the feedback I get from my courses indicates that my classes agree. Not that I’m perfect—I'm still learning!

In the years I've been training in MI, I've been fortunate to work with some great people and great organizations. And with many different goal areas and practitioners. MI works with them all!
Onsite training
For larger agencies, onsite workshops can work well.
